some older videos I made, such as The
Smock and Dani’s Drawing Dilemma
so he could match the look with the
sound. He decided to give it a 1970s
sound, and, with a piano, he recorded
a fanfare for the
introduction and a
short and long version of the music
that is used throughout the video.
Before premiering
my video at my thesis defense, it was shown to a class of
both fourth and fifth graders at a local
elementary school. They were engaged
while watching it and very interested
in how it was made. To top it off, they
thought it was really funny!
have students try out the found draw-
ing activity that the Sneaky Sneaker
Spies demonstrate. In this activity,
students search for interesting marks
around the room and record them in
their sketchbooks. It
requires little addi-
tional instruction
after viewing the
video, as students
would have just seen
the Sneaky Sneaker
Spies model how it is
done. Students will need their sketch-
books or a sheet of paper, a pencil, and
a clipboard.
This video was intended to introduce specific art concepts to students
in a fun way. Students should watch
this video and walk away with an
understanding of how to observe their
surroundings more closely and how
to work creatively through mistakes.
They should also be aware that the
characters in the video carried their
sketchbooks to class with them. I cre-

ated the characters with the intention
that students would model some of
these behaviors.
Students not only enjoy lessons
more when they watch an animation,
but they also stay more engaged in
class. Now, art teachers everywhere
can bring the Sneaky Sneaker Spies
into their classrooms to deliver art
content in an entertaining and memorable way.
