branding mistakes, like the failed New
Coke, Harley-Davidson perfume, the
Ford Edsel, and Kellogg’s failed attempt
to market its products in India. The
true test of an identity design project is
not whether or not the students think
it’s cool, but whether or not it actually
produces noticeable, positive results in
the real world.
Like most design projects, the
beauty of an identity design project
for teachers and students is that there
are plenty of resources available. A
quick search will turn up thousands of
resources, including articles, websites,
images, and whole books on the topic
to provide inspiration. Design is truly
all around us, and resources for design
education on identity design and
branding are plentiful.
