Are you Entrepreneurial? Nantucket
artist/teacher Anne Sutherland offers
a week-long training program with
accommodations: How to Start Your
Own Sketching Tour Business. Participants will learn Anne’s unique
sketching techniques that lead to
repeat business. Intensive training
includes how to teach all the elements
of sketching to a mixed group successfully in four hours. Each day offers
an in-depth approach to elements of
sketching, including perspective and
ratio, negative space, warm-up and
pencil techniques, and contour drawing. Open art studio is also available
for painting at the end of the day.
Instructional time is devoted to business development including managing
a data base, advertising, publicity, tax
deductions, how to collect money,
customer satisfaction, and more.
Spaces are available for May 22–29,
June 12–19, July 24–31, and August
21–28. Class size is limited. Sketching Tours of Nantucket began with an
idea in 1996 and still is thriving fourteen years and more than 2000 students later. The Boston Globe, Foder’s

MassArt offers a variety of extraordinary resources and programs for
artists, art educators, and high-school
students. In addition to undergraduate
(BFA) and graduate (MFA, MSAE)
degree programs, MassArt offers a
low-residency MFA, based at the Fine
Arts Work center in Provincetown,
Massachusetts. Summer Studios,
MassArt’s pre-college summer program, is an intensive experience in
art-making and critical thinking for
students entering grades eleven and
twelve. Students may apply to receive
college credit. Supervised housing in
the college residence hall is available.
Art New England Workshops, week-long classes in a variety of media, are
held in Bennington, Vermont, in July
and August and attract art educators
