protect the surface. I use the clear
polyacrylics that can be purchased at
a hardware store.
Underglaze is wonderful for sgraf-
fito effects. Paint on underglaze
when the clay is leather hard, let dry
slightly, carve images and patterns,
fire, clear glaze, and fire again.
Glaze is another good choice, since
when it is fired it usually creates a
glossy, impenetrable surface.
Acrylics can be mixed with gel
medium and applied after firing to
create translucent effects.

of applying poems, journaling, and
