Close: Process and Collaboration. The accompanying website includes a teacher packet (under “Learning Resources”) divided into the headings “Talking About Art,” “Viewing Prints,” and “Thinking About Art.” Each consists of a series of questions for elementary and secondary students about printmaking, portraiture, and the work of Chuck Close.

“Making Art” provides five hands-on classroom experiences for elementary and secondary classrooms, and “Print Making Processes” explains relief techniques (linoleum or wood block), intaglio (etching, aquatint, direct gravure, and mezzotint), the planographic process (lithography), and stencil processes (silkscreen). A link to MoMA’s interactive feature “What Is a Print?” appears on this page. A glossary is included, and the teacher packet can be downloaded. Under “Related Projects and Activities,” only one site could be accessed, a lesson plan on “Grid-Method Portraits” ( www.art-rageous.net/GridPor-traitIntro.html).

A useful feature called “Understanding the Process” appears under the heading “Process and Collaboration.” The nature of Close’s collaboration with master printers is expanded upon, and three of the processes are broken down and illustrated step-by-step.
