Review: The soft waxy consistency
of Derwent Coloursoft Colored
Pencils allows them to be blended
easily and reworked repeatedly. They
go on fast and blend well, like paint,
but with the control and definition
of a colored pencil. The wide color
range allows for even more control
and amazing and soft gradients.
I particularly like using them in
combination with other media, such
as marker or crayon. They are well-suited for small-scale, detail-oriented
work, and retain their vibrancy even
when used with fixative. Derwent’s
Coloursoft line is, all things
considered, a wonderful break from
the harder pencils most children are
used to seeing in the classroom, and
a great way to introduce blending and
layering without the mess of chalk or
pastels.
