JOVI Patmaché

Teacher: Jen Swan, art instructor,
Worcester Art Museum, Worcester,
Massachusetts
Level: Ages 8–10
The Project: Students used JOVI
Patmaché papier-mâché modeling
clay to construct puppet heads. The
material was worked over a ball for
the head and a roll of thin cardboard
for the neck. Students layered the
easily moldable Patmaché to cover
the head completely and allow for the
creation of facial features. After the
heads were dry, they were painted
and yarn was added for hair. We then
glued the heads onto fabric bodies.
Unlike traditional papier-mâché,
Patmaché is clean and easy to use.
Students enjoyed its clay-like feel
and the ability to easily form facial
features.
