E L E M E N T A R Y A couple of years ago, I suffered what should have been a very proud moment. One of my students returned from sum - mer vacation with a relatively large painting that she had done. It depicted a sur - real landscape and used two-point perspective, overlap, and atmosphere to create the illusion of depth. Color and light created a mood. "I even used the rule of thirds!" she beamed, referring to the emphasis that she'd created in the composi - tion. Her artwork was a virtuoso demonstration of concepts that I had taught her. She was justi - fiably proud. I communicated my genuine awe that she had absorbed our lessons so thoroughly. WHAT DO Rama Hughes HAVE TO SAY? YOU Samantha Marshak.
