S tudents entering my Introduc- tion to Photography courses typically have a strong interest in photography, but their expe- rience with using cameras is often limited to taking snapshots. There- fore, early in the course, I hope to build on their interest in photography, but also help them to understand how it can be an art form. This lesson on texture represents one way that I help students break from their established modes of taking quick snapshots to see photography and their world from a different point of view. Defining Texture First, I want to make sure that every- one understands the concept of tex- ture.
