Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzlinger, Floods (Hochwasser), 2011. Arp Museum, railway station, Rolandseck, Remagen. Image courtesy of the artists. It is pouring rain. The Rhine River rises around the shining white museum and breaks through the gates, leaving behind a chaos of display cabinets, pedestals, catalogs, posters, drift wood, mud, and oddities. Sedimenta- tion has now risen to the surface to form a new order. The museum can normally be compared to a dam, but now it has become debris and formed a stream. New life builds its nest. The beaver builds an office furniture dam including coral reef. Frogs croak at cell phones. The lost office plant toys with a water rat. A cicada surfs on a dish sponge as zebra mussels dance the cha-cha-cha. The mermaid luxuriates in her dim cave. Sup, oh heart, on the superabundance of time!
