34 October 2014 SchoolArts Middle School Studio Lesson A s a middle-school visual arts teacher, I'm always looking for ways to combine my lessons with topics in other disciplines, as well as to pro- mote our school's anti-bullying policy. This particular lesson combines portraiture drawing with promot- ing diversity, harmony, anti-bullying and acceptance through the creation of an art installation called "Towers of Tolerance." This project promotes the beauty of all cultures through the drawing of thousands of mini- portraits that were combined onto cardboard columns, reflecting the vast variety of world cultures. The columns were combined to created several sculptural pieces that will enhance our school environment for years to come. Neal Roberts TOWERS OF TOLERANCE
