Teacher-Student Portfolio Faith Jessup & Morgan Everhart Faith Jessup, Teacher. I paint from observation and from my imagination. In my studio, I often illuminate small plastic animals with a table lamp and, through the process of painting them, conjure them into life. A tiny plastic chicken becomes a proud hen who has laid impossibly large eggs. Green lizards circle around the base of a bouquet, like fallen leaves. I like to create a heightened sense of reality by imagining my animals and objects as actors on a darkened stage with a single source of light intensifying their presence. While I consider myself to be a realist painter, my interest lies in creating a world of impossibilities. Faith Jessup is an art teacher at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. Morgan Everhart, Student. Throughout my adventure into art so far, I have been trying all different kinds of media. It has been easy for me to get a feel for any media that I use, and I find that it is important to display the connection of emotions between my subject matter and myself. This year, I developed a feel for oils, charcoal, and Prismacolor Pencils. I love blending and layering the colored pencils and I also enjoy the juiciness of oil paint. Morgan Everhart is a senior at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. Call for Entries: SchoolArts is recognizing the work of students and teachers from around the country, and we are looking for more art to be featured. Please send images of your work and the work of one of your students, along with 100-word artist's statements, on a CD to Nancy Walkup, Editor, SchoolArts, 2223 Parkside Drive, Denton, TX 76201. 18
