teACheR-student poRtfoLio Sharon McKittrick Boyle & Shelby Patton sharon mckittrick Boyle, teacher As an artist, I know drawing requires a different way of seeing. I know that composition is the most important concept. I also know you can do this, too. As a teacher, I believe everyone can draw and learn to see in this creative way. I love to make art with different materials every day, and I learn something new with each project. I am a living example to my students of a person who is a success in the arts. I say to them "You can spend your life doing something you love. I believe we all can." Sharon McKittrick Boyle teaches art and photography at Woodbridge Senior High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. shelby patton, student My responsibility as an art student is to take expectations and standards and surpass them. Every piece of art I create comes from the heart and holds a deeper meaning from what the viewer's eye catches at first glance. Something I love about art is that everyone has a different opinion and makes their own conclusions from a piece of work. I like to create my art to be a mystery that doesn't result in one answer, and each viewer goes on a journey to figure out how they connect with the art. Each connection is relevant and entirely valid. Shelby Patton is a junior at Woodbridge Senior High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. Call for entries: SchoolArts is recognizing the work of high-school students and teachers from around the country, and we are looking for more art to be featured. Please send images of your work and the work of one of your students, along with 100-word artist's statements, on a CD to Nancy Walkup, Editor, SchoolArts, 2223 Parkside Drive, Denton, TX 76201. 18 October 2010 SchoolArts
